AX01 and MA01 Series Floating Board-to-Board Connector Has Added New Pin Counts and Height Variations

AX01 and MA01 Series Floating Board-to-Board Connector

March 29, 2022
JAE has released additional pin count and stacking height variations to the AX01 Series and MA01 Series of floating board-to-board connectors. Now available in 8 different pin counts (30-140 contacts) and 11 stacking heights (8-30 mm), each series offers a large line-up for industrial and automotive applications.

Sophisticated production lines using robots and automated machines to improve productivity, efficiency and quality continues on the rise. As the use of automation expands, requirements for floating board-to-board connectors increases. A connector integrated into rugged applications will also need to feature high vibration resistance and contact reliability. Another common requirement is the ability to support high speed transmission. This is driven by high bandwidth demand in applications related to ADAS, autonomous driving, IoT and cloud networking technologies.

In response to the market trend, in 2019 we launched the AX01 Series floating type board-to-board connector, with a two-point contact structure, to support automated assembly and high-speed transmission (8Gbps+). In 2021 we launched the MA01 Series connectors with automotive applications in mind. To meet the diverse demands over several markets we expanded our pin count and stacking height variations to our line-up offering a total of 88 combinations for each Series.

Both the AX01 and MA01 Series have a floating tolerance of ±0.5 mm in the X & Y directions, which helps absorb positional shifts and misalignments during automated mounting and assembly processes. Combining that with large mating guides to prevent misalignment, these connectors are ideal for robot driven assemblies. Conventional rigid board-to-board connectors have difficulty with mating tolerances when multiple board-to-board connectors are used to interface between the same set of boards. The AX01 and MA01 Series connectors feature a floating structure that can absorb positional misalignment during the mating process of these boards, which allows for use of multiple connectors on the same boards. In addition, MA01 Series connectors can operate within automotive operating temperatures of up to 125°C.

The two-point contact structure provides a highly reliable connection and will ensure uninterrupted continuity even if one contact point is obstructed by a foreign contaminant. The AX01 and MA01 connector series uses the smooth rolled-surface for the contact points, which reduces the high insertion and removal forces generally found in conventional two-point contact connectors. Lastly, the AX01 and MA01 series achieves high speed transmission speeds exceeding 8 Gbps and is able to support 10GBASE-KR (*1) and PCIe Gen3 (*2) transmission.

This product will be exhibited at electronica China 2022 international trade fair for electronic components, systems, applications and solutions to be held from May 6.

*1) 10GBASE-KR: 10 Gigabit Ethernet transmission; one of the communication standards for building computer networks specified by IEEE specifying communication between printed circuit boards within equipment.
*2) PCIe Gen3 (PCIExpress 3.0): One of the serial bus standards specified by PCI-SIG and compatible with 8 Gbps transmission.Speed Float is a brand logo for our floating board-to-board connectors for high-speed transmission. We provide high-performance and highly reliable products for an increasingly "high-speed society".
