WP11 and WP12 Series High Current Board-to-board Connectors Launched

JAE has developed and launched the WP11 Series and WP12 Series of compact high-current board-to-board connectors, with a pitch of 0.4 mm and a mated stacking height of 0.7 mm. These connectors enable up to 15 A of power supply in ICT devices such as small terminals, smartphones, wearable equipment, and gaming PCs.

Overview

As small portable devices such as smartphones, wearable terminals, and tablet PCs become smaller, lighter and thinner, internal connectors need to be more compact while also improving robustness to prevent damage during assembly. Furthermore, for high current connection areas, such as for batteries, connectors are required to have a larger current capacity to improve charging speeds of large capacity batteries.
To conform to these needs, JAE has developed and launched the WP11 Series, with the same pitch and mated height as the existing WP10 Series but can carry 1.25 times the current at 15 A, and has increased robustness. The WP12 Series shares these improvements but has achieved further size reduction downsizing and high connector retention force.

WP11 Series Achieves High Robustness

The WP11 Series adopts a seamless guide structure for the plug hold down by utilizing a drawing process . This enables smooth mating, and reduces the risk of damage improving robustness despite its compact size.

WP12 Series Achieves Both Miniaturization and High Retention Force

By miniaturizing the hold down, the WP12 Series has achieved further size reduction compared to the WP11 Series with a length of 5 mm and width of 2.23 mm. In addition, the dowel structure built into the hold down increases the connector retention force to over 10 N, reducing the risk of the connectors becoming separated during the device assembly process or exposure to high shock and vibration.
