Introducing the MX81D Series Connectors Delivering Up to 25A for High Power Automotive Applications

JAE has developed the MX81D Series: a non-waterproof, wire-to-board connector designed for use in automotive applications. It features a terminal tab size of 2.8 mm and can support up to 25 A. This new series expands on the existing MX81A series (which features a terminal tab size of 0.64 mm). In the future, JAE plans to develop additional pin count variations as well as hybrid types that combine 0.64 mm and 2.8 mm terminals, in order to meet the diverse needs of customers in the automotive market.

Overview
The automotive industry’s shift toward electrification has created a need for higher-power components. The increased computing power of ECUs, coupled with an increase in the number of units, has led to a greater demand for electrical power. To meet these requirements, connectors that can accommodate larger terminal sizes and thicker wires are necessary.
The new MX81D Series is a non-waterproof connector designed. With a terminal tab size of 2.8 mm, it supports wires ranging from 1.5 to 4.0 mm2 and can handle currents of up to 25 A. Compliant with IEC 60664-1*, the international standard for insulation coordination in low-voltage equipment, it has a safety-conscious design. It also achieves high contact reliability and robustness, having passed USCAR-2 standard requirements. The socket connector features a preset retainer that detects partial insertion of terminals, thereby improving work efficiency and supporting harness automation.
- IEC 60664-1: Defines the required insulation distances (clearance and creepage distances) between conductors of different potentials within electrical equipment, based on conditions such as voltage, pollution level and altitude.
- USCAR: United States Council for Automotive Research. A standard by the USCAR specifying physical characteristics and environmental adaptability.
