AX01 Series Floating Board-to-board Connector Compatible with 8 Gbps High-speed Transmission

JAE has launched AX01 Series, high-speed floating type board-to-board connectors with high-reliability two-point contact. The connector is ideal for internal connection of industrial equipment such as robots, automated machines, and machine tools.

Automated production lines using robots and automated machines are becoming increasingly popular to improve productivity, quality and reductions in manpower. The use of floating board-to-board connectors are growing, in addition to conventional board-to-board connectors, to support robotic assembly, as well as to ensure vibration resistance and contact reliability. Also, with the increasing speed of information processing, along with the adoption of IoT and networking of industrial equipment, high-speed transmission is a key feature for connectors.

To cater to these trends we have launched the AX01 Series, floating board-to-board connectors for high-speed transmission.

This product has a floating structure of ±0.5 mm in the X & Y direction, which can absorb positional shifts / misalignments during mounting and assembly. Combined with the mating guides the connector is suitable for robot assembly. Conventional rigid-type board-to-board connectors have difficulty with alignment when using multiple board-to-board connectors on the same board. This connector features a floating structure that can absorb positional misalignments during mounting and allows the simultaneous use of multiple board-to-board connectors.

The two-point contact structure allows for highly reliable connection, while providing countermeasures against foreign objects and mounting flux. At the same time, to improve workability this connector series implements a roll surface contact structure, which reduces the problem of the high insertion and removal forces required in conventional two-point contact connectors. In response to the growing demand for high-speed transmission, we have achieved transmission speeds exceeding 8 Gbps, equivalent to 10 GBASE-KR(*1) and PCIe Gen3(*2).

JAE has started the release of this series with a 100 positon, 30mm stacking height with near future plans to develop a variety of horizontal and vertical options in pin count varying from 30 to 140 position and stacking heights in 8 to 30 mm range.
