JAE Launches ST20 Series: Stacked-Tray Combo Connector for nanoSIM and microSD™ Cards

JAE has developed and launched the ST20 Series, a compact push-pull tray combo connector that supports nanoSIM and microSD™ (*1) cards in a stacked, two-tier tray structure.

Overview

SIM cards enable mobile network connectivity and voice service, while SD cards provide data storage and backup. A growing number of devices — including smartphones, drones, and dashcams — now require both a nanoSIM and a microSD card.
JAE's existing ST19 Series addresses this need with a compact combo connector that accepts both cards side-by-side on a single plane. However, as battery capacities grow and additional components compete for board space, even smaller solutions are required.
The new ST20 Series answers that demand with a stacked-tray architecture: a single tray holds a card on both its top and bottom surfaces, cutting PCB footprint by approximately 50% compared to the ST19 Series. The slot itself is formed when two reflow-mounted components — a socket (*2) and a block (*3) — come together on the PCB, eliminating any separate joining mechanism and enabling an exceptionally compact, low-profile design.

  • The Socket is consists of a connector housing, contacts on the tray’s top side, and a detection switch, designed to support nanoSIM cards
  • The Block has contacts on the bottom of the tray that support nanoSIM or microSD cards, enabling 3-in-2 functionality
