High-Speed Board-to-Board Connector with Optimum Reliability for Integrated ECU Applications!
An engineer at the automotive equipment manufacturer said, “While gathering information from connector manufacturers, we received a proposal from a JAE sales representatives for a board-to-board connector supporting high-speed transmission suitable for automotive environments.”
“As soon as I heard about it, I learned that the connector can withstand use at 125°C,” said the engineer. “At the same time, I could see that it is a floating connector with the reliability required for automotive applications. In the integrated ECU currently under consideration, the key attributes required for connector selection were to absorb misalignment when connecting multiple boards in the unit, withstand stress on the connectors caused by vibration/shock, and to support 8Gbps data transmission speeds.”
The "SpeedFloat MA01 Series", which has JAE's unique 2-point contact structure and can support 8Gbps transmission, was a floating connector that cleared all of these requirements.
In addition, since the options for board-to-board stacking heights and the number of contacts are abundant compared with those of other companies, there is more freedom in design. Simulation analysis of the maximum current that can be applied to the terminals used for power supply, was also a decisive factor.
"The signal integrity simulation was carried out using the S-parameters which were immediately available. We were able to verify that the connector could handle high-speed transmission sufficiently, and we decided to make a prototype. We were able to get fast support for connector samples and other technical support issues, and we were able to complete the prototype without any problems."
Currently, the equipment manufacturer is preparing for mass production.
