Environmental Audits

The JAE Group's integrated environmental management system is undergoing its forth ISO 14001 renewal inspection since receiving integrated certification in August 2005. In an internal environment quality audit, a particular emphasis was placed on measures to address climate change, and it was carried out with attention also paid to the roles and responsibilities of various managers and officers from the standpoint of preventing risks.
●Results of ISO 14001 renewal inspection
An ISO 14001 renewal inspection showed that the JAE Group's environmental management system based on the ISO 14001:2004 standard continues to be effective. There were, however, many citations concerning monitoring and measuring instrument adjustments that were brought up as opportunities for improvement. Efforts will be made to make further improvements as an issue of risk management, including facilities.
●Results of internal environmental audits
Internal environmental audits at the JAE Group had many citations concerning competence, education/training, and awareness. After these were cited at a management review last year, confirmation of clarifications was incorporated into the internal environmental audit. As a strong point, auditing policy that places an emphasis on measures to address climate change for which deployment across the group can be recommended was indicated, six cases out of eight were related to these measures, and through internal audits, it is believed that effective deployment across the group was achieved.
For non-compliance in internal audits, corrective measures were taken without delay to prevent recurrences. In addition, the results of internal environmental audits were reported to the executive officer in charge of the group's environmental management and reflected in revisions to the management system.
Group environmental quality audits in FY 2009 used a self-evaluation approach carried out by the environmental advisor assigned to the division being audited. Compared to the previous year, in which there were few citations, new citations were uncovered due to the new self-evaluation method. Moving forward, the JAE Group will increase the efficiency of its entire environmental quality auditing and make improvements while keeping an eye their effects.
