Environmental Report 2015

Building a More Sustainable Society

Environmental Management

We are moving forward on corporate activities with respect to the natural environment and biodiversity.
Our businesses are managed with the recognition that working to address global warming is an urgent global environmental issue.
In recent years, climate change has caused enormous damage to the natural environment, both in and outside of Japan. We therefore believe that one of our important corporate missions is to take measures to fight global warming.
All the companies of the JAE Group, while sustainably providing society with improved products, strive to contribute to society by taking action that reduces the environmental impact of their business activities.

Environmental Activities

Within the framework of corporate social responsibility (CSR), JAE’s environmental management activities start with basic proactive initiatives designed to ensure that no harmful substances are emitted in the course of production activities. At the same time, it goes without saying, we are charged with responding to new issues, such as biodiversity, with an awareness of the entire natural world, as well as global warming. The JAE Group articulates its goals and moves forward with initiatives to address these issues based on its environmental policy.

With regard to countermeasures to mitigate global warming, the use of energy has a huge impact. As initiatives that we have conducted to date, we are installing LED lighting and adopting efficient air conditioning equipment at newly constructed plants, and at existing plants, steadily converting to energy-efficient equipment and switching to LED lighting for guidance illumination, along with other measures. Moreover, by raising productivity in the manufacturing process, we have achieved efficiency in energy usage. We will continue to make efforts toward reducing the impact we place on the environment.

In other environmental activities, thorough adherence to environmental regulations, the promotion of green procurement, the design of eco-friendly products, and the reduction of chemical substances and waste materials are among the initiatives we have taken as we strive to lower our overall environmental impact. As part of these activities and as a topic taken up in fiscal 2014, by promoting the removal of heating boilers, we were able to substantially reduce the emissions of air-polluting substances.

Employees receive regular environmental training on energy conservation that deepens their understanding of the fight against global warming and elicits a sense of urgency. This has become integral to employees' educational programs.

We welcomed the 10th anniversary of the JAE Group Forest, which was established in 2004 as a symbol of the Group’s environmental policies.
In addition to such initial goals as forest preservation and the replenish of its watershed, JAE Group Forest also promotes awareness of biodiversity and fosters environmental consciousness among employees through hands-on learning with on-site activities to preserve the forest. We would like to continue to build upon this cornerstone of JAE’s environmental activities.

The JAE Group will continue to produce environmentally friendly products and promote ongoing environmental activities through its social contribution initiatives.
