NACS Standard Compliant Connector KW51 [Product Under Development]

December 17, 2024

Increasing awareness of environmental issues calls for a shift to CLEAN ENERGY to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more popular.

EV charging methods and standards differ around the world, but the current standard for EV charging in North America is the CCS1 method. On the other hand, major EV manufacturer Tesla, Inc. has established a large market share in North America with its proprietary charging method. This Tesla charging method has been released as the North American Charging System (NACS), and based on this standard, SAE(*1) is currently working on establishing the standard number J3400(*2). As a result, major car manufacturers aside from Tesla in various countries have announced that they will adopt the NACS standard for EV charging in North America starting in 2025, and it is expected that the NACS will become widely popularized in North America in the future.

In response to this background, JAE is using the know-how gained from developing various standard products (CHAdeMO, CCS1, CCS2) in the KW series to develop the KW51, an NACS standard compliant EV charging connector, with plans to begin mass production in the United States in 2025.
