Environmental Report 2010

Setting Targets and Evaluating Results

In August 2005, the JAE Group integrated its domestic environmental management systems into a single, multi-site system that sets targets and objectives for the entire JAE Group, while taking into consideration the unique initiatives implemented at each site.

Overview of FY 2009 Activities

In FY 2009, the six targets of measures against climate change, increasing green procurement, reducing raw materials use, reducing chemical substances, reducing waste material, and lessening environmental impacts by promoting eco-friendly designs, were raised as the environmental goals of the JAE Group. In August, the originally planned targets of reducing CO2 emissions from the use of energy and cutting CO2 generation during materials manufacturing by reducing the amount of materials used were revised upwards from 1,646 tons to 1,949 tons and from 175 tons to 318 tons, respectively. Overall, the targets were mostly achieved, but the rate achieved for the reduction in average CO2 emissions per unit of real sales, which is one of the targets of the measures against climate change, was only 80% of the targeted level due to the effects of reduced production. The following table shows the figures in detail.
Activity Objective Target Results Evaluation (note)
Progress with measures against climate change Reduction in average CO2 emissions per unit of real sales
(1990 level)
39% cut 31.4% cut ×
Reduction by measures against CO2 emissions caused by to energy usage 1,949 ton-CO2 reduction 2,313 ton-CO2
Curbing CO2 emissions caused by materials production by cutting materials usage 318 ton-CO2
reduction

Promotion of green procurement Checking of environmental quality at suppliers 286 companies or more 303 companies
Reduction of raw materials use Reduction of the amount of metal used as a target value of number of items for which to implement metal conservation (HAE) 30 items or more 31 items
Reduction of electric discharge electrode material (FAE)

Note: In the above table, "○" indicates 100% attainment of target value, while "×" indicates an attainment of 90% or less.

Future Efforts

For FY 2010, the JAE Group has set the same environmental targets across the group as in FY 2009, and is now working toward attaining them.
