Green Procurement

Status of Green Procurement

◆Activities in FY 2012 (Result of activities)
Requirements concerning chemical content around the world, including the current RoHS directive and REACH, are getting stricter each year. The JAE Group believes that responding to this situation demands establishing systems to manage chemical content across the supplier chain and to preserve the environment. That is why the Group is making the following efforts with the help of its suppliers:
  ● Presenting Green Procurement Guidelines to its suppliers.
  ● Checking environmental quality periodically and implementing progress management according to an environmental management plan.
The checking of environmental quality by the FY 2012 environment management plan is as follows. Target values have been exceeded.
Number of business partners for which FY 2012 environmental quality checks were implemented: 240 companies (target value was 214 companies)

◆Initiatives by the JAE Group

(1) Certification of Environmental Advisors
Starting in FY 2004, Environmental Advisors have been in charge of checking the environmental quality of suppliers. These Environmental Advisors receive new or periodically updated instruction, and only those who pass the required test are certified.
★Newly certified advisors: 20; advisors with updated certification: 100
(Tenured: About 200)

As a result, some 320 Environmental Advisors in Japan and overseas had checked the environmental quality of suppliers around the world as of March 2013.

(2) Establishment of an environmental quality control system
The JAE Group is installing x-ray fluorescence spectrometers at plants in Japan and overseas, and when incoming/outgoing inspection and verifications of chemical constituent data are required, it is establishing a system capable of analyzing the data on its own. In addition, chemical constituent data is managed in a proprietary environmental database, allowing the company to respond to requests for information from customers.

(3) Communication with Business Partners
The cooperation of business partners, including the supplying of chemical constituent data, is indispensable to improving environmental quality, and that requires the building of system based on mutual trust. In FY 2012, we once again held a New Year's Party as an opportunity for communication aimed at building relationships that mutually strengthen ties with our business partners. We are also working to forge strong partnerships, such as holding a Procurement Policy Orientation for our main business partners.
