Environmental Report 2021

Building a Sustainable World Tsutomu Onohara, President

Environmental Management

The JAE Group Charter of Corporate Behavior declares our commitment to “harmony with the environment,” and we fully embrace the ESG perspective. We respect the natural environment and work hard to ensure that everything we do is environmentally friendly.
In recent years, the impact of global warming has been more serious than expected, increasing momentum to build carbon-free societies earlier in countries throughout the world. The fight against climate change has become an urgent issue shared by the entire world. The Japanese government also recently announced Japan’s aim to become carbon neutral by 2050.
The JAE Group recognizes the importance of growing sustainably while working to build a cyclical society by pursuing a wide range of environmental initiatives, including taking steps to address climate change. To this end, the JAE Group is shifting away from actions that are mere extensions of conventional measures and is boldly addressing new environmental challenges, while working to help build a prosperous, sustainable world.

Environmental Activities

As part of the Group’s corporate social responsibility policy, the JAE Group not only seeks to comply with laws and regulations on the environment, but also to comprehensively monitor the environmental impact of its business activities. The Group’s environmental commitment includes a zero-tolerance policy about pollution, and the Group works to resolve environmental issues in nature overall, including taking steps to address climate change and protecting biodiversity. Information on these efforts is published as necessary.
The Group views the fight against climate change as a top-priority issue, and has been working steadily to conserve energy. (Part of the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions achieved through its efforts was donated to the Tokyo metropolitan government’s Zero Emission Tokyo initiative, a program to reach zero CO2 emissions that the JAE Group supports. The Group donated 12,314 tons in credits (excess CO2 reductions), based on the Tokyo Cap & Trade Program. For details, please refer to Measures against Climate Change.)
While pursuing energy conservation, the JAE Group also expects to become carbon neutral, and has a science-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction target (SBT) for the company as its main indicator. The Group is considering the optimal approach for the energy it purchases, which is the main driver of its CO2 emissions — whether that is renewable energy use or private power generation. Given the protracted impact of COVID-19, remote work is being adopted and used even more widely, and the Group is digitalizing its operations further to drive greater efficiency company-wide. We expect these activities to help reduce our environmental impact, as well.
The JAE Group aims to balance corporate activities and environmental conservation by practicing environmentally friendly manufacturing. We ask for your continued understanding and support.
