Significance of the 2021 Environmental Report
Global environmental risks such as disasters caused by climate change and the reduction of water and forest resources that are impacting ecosystem conservation have become serious issues. To address global warming and other issues facing the international community, the United Nations has set Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The JAE Group recognizes that it is the company's responsibility to address these environmental risks through its business activities. We will reduce our environmental impact while still expanding production scale as a company and promote sustainable environmental management in line with our environmental policy.
The JAE Group focused its efforts on addressing climate change, reducing waste, managing water resources, and complying with regulations on chemicals contained in products, by analyzing risks (and opportunities) according to ISO 14001: 2015. These were the main topics for its environmental activities in fiscal 2020.

Director in charge of Environment,
JAE Group Executive Officer
As part of the Group’s efforts to fight climate change, it earned SBT validation as a member of the NEC Group and underwent a third-party examination of its GHG emissions, which is necessary for SBT reporting.
Specific energy conservation measures included infrastructure improvements such as switching lighting to LEDs and updating compressors and transformers, raising manufacturing efficiency, and improving the energy efficiency of manufacturing equipment such as injection molders, pressing machines and plating equipment. Energy use was reduced by the equivalent of 5,500kL of oil compared to fiscal 2012 levels. CO2 emissions from distribution were also reduced by revising routes and using reusable trays.
Senior management is directly engaged with our initiatives to reduce total CO2 emissions further so that we can meet the expectations of the international community and customers going forward.
We will identify the exact breakdown of our energy use as we reduce CO2 emissions and improve energy efficiency ahead of these initiatives. We will also consider introducing renewable energy, tailored to the conditions at each of our sites.
Efforts to reduce waste are important in breaking away from plastic. We review the way we treat each kind of waste, provide education on waste sorting, and promote recycling.
In terms of water resource management, we carry out forest conservation activities with the JAE Group Forest, the Group’s symbol of environmental management, in order to preserve groundwater.
We work hard to communicate with suppliers as we address regulations on chemical substances in products, and are building a cooperative system based on mutual trust, for instance by providing data on chemical substances in products. We will continue to augment our management system going forward.
Unfortunately, however, there was a delay in a notification of industrial waste produced by JAE. We will reinforce our management methods so that this does not happen again.
This environmental report summarizes our environmental activities in fiscal 2020. We would be pleased if you would share your opinions with us so that we can make further improvements to our environmental activities.
