Sequential release of automotive ICT connectors compatible with automotive application specifications

March 26, 2024

Japan Aviation Electronics Industry (JAE), from its lineup of abundantly successful connectors for ICT (information communication technology) devices such as PCs and smartphones, which are outstanding in super-speed communication, space-saving, and other aspects, has begun selling connectors adapted for automotive requirements as “automotive ICT connectors.” The first set of connectors released are the board-to-board connectors of the WP26DK Series and the USB Type-C® (*1) connectors of the DX07 Series, and JAE will continue to expand its lineup of automotive ICT connectors in the future.

Two series of automotive ICT connectors, compatible with high temperatures of 105–125°C

(Board-to-board connectors)

DX07 Series
(USB Type-C connectors)

As the transition to electric vehicles and higher performance advances, interior layouts in vehicles are increasingly unitized, as in PCs and other commercial appliances, creating a need for connectors to electrically connect internal boards within units as well as connect units to other units. Units have to process a greater number of signals, and connectors need to provide high-speed transmission and higher pin counts while taking up less space.
In ICT device markets such as smartphones and PCs, JAE has had abundant success with compact and high-density connectors compatible with super-speed communication. By selecting various connectors from among these that have outstanding contact reliability and are compatible with the harsh usage environments characteristic of automobiles and testing the connectors in the equivalent of automotive environments, JAE has proven that these connectors can be used in automotive applications without any problems.
JAE has begun to sell the board-to-board connectors of the WP26DK Series and the USB Type-C connectors of the DX07 Series, designed for portable devices and ICT devices, as “automotive ICT connectors” compliant with automotive requirements, including high-temperature environments of 105–125°C, the USCAR2 standard, and the LV214 standard. JAE also plans to sequentially release automotive connectors for microSD™ (*2) cards, connectors for micro SIM cards, and connectors for nano SIM cards in the future.
JAE, utilizing the technologies it has previously cultivated in connectors for commercial appliances, will continue to contribute to achieving higher performance and greater space saving in automotive interiors and elsewhere.
